Asda Tranent Supermarket: Your Local Shopping Destination

At the heart of Tranent, Asda Tranent Supermarket stands as a convenient hub for daily essentials and more. While it may not be as expansive as larger counterparts in Edinburgh, it offers great produce and competitive prices for locals seeking quality food.

Accessibility and Parking

One of the highlights of Asda Tranent is its wheelchair-accessible entrance and designated wheelchair-accessible car park. Parking is available at no extra cost, with a free parking lot that accommodates shoppers with ease. However, some customers have noted that car parking spaces can be quite small, making maneuvering a challenge, especially during busy hours.

Shopping Experience

The store provides various service options, including no-contact delivery and in-store pick-up, catering to different shopping preferences. Many appreciate the availability of debit cards, credit cards, and NFC mobile payments for quick transactions. Despite its compact size, Asda Tranent boasts a decent variety of offerings, although some shoppers have expressed disappointment regarding the limited selection compared to bigger stores.

Customer Feedback and Challenges

Visitors often comment on the cleanliness of the store and the friendly staff who are generally eager to help. However, feedback indicates that the store can feel cramped, particularly during peak hours. The aisles are described as narrow, which makes shopping a bit challenging. Self-service checkouts are available, but complaints about long queues and inadequate staff assistance have been common, leading to frustration among customers. One customer remarked on their disappointment with a specific incident regarding lottery ticket sales, highlighting a lack of clarity around store policies. Such experiences indicate that while the staff strive to maintain good service, training could be enhanced for improved customer interactions.

Products and Fresh Produce

Despite some concerns regarding stock levels and product availability, many shoppers praise the fresh produce on offer. Regular updates to shelves are made, although they may not always keep pace with demand, particularly during busy times. Additionally, the supermarket engages in recycling initiatives, including battery recycling, which many customers appreciate.

Conclusion

Asda Tranent Supermarket remains a vital resource for the local community, providing essential grocery items and quick visit capabilities for busy shoppers. While there are areas for improvement, particularly in staffing at checkout points and overall product range, the store continues to meet the basic needs of its customers effectively. For those living in Tranent or just passing through, it’s a reliable spot for a quick grocery run, complemented by the convenience of nearby fuel services.

Convenient and reasonably well-stocked, I must say. Could do with a few more hands on deck at the checkout to manage the self-service counters. Funny enough, during our visit, I didn't spot a single soul manning a regular till. Prices are fair, and the staff, although a tad stretched thin, are amiable.

This wee handy shop is just great, isn't it?
Teresa Williams (23/06/2025, 02:21):
Terrible supermarket. Exceedingly basic. Always understaffed (although they are all quite pleasant, not their fault). I only stop by for bread or milk. Definitely not the spot for a proper shopping trip.
Christopher Cruz (22/06/2025, 20:56):
I tried to use the self-scan tills, but they weren't working properly. There was no staff available to help me out. The regular checkouts also didn't have enough staff on hand. When I asked for assistance, I was told that I had come at a bad time during tea break – blaming me as the customer! There were no carrier bags available at the tills either.

Additionally, the trollies were only available at the exit, not at the entrance – which seemed like an odd setup. It seems like this store won't be open for much longer, with only two staff members present, it wouldn't be a big loss to society if it shut down. Overall, it was a frustrating experience.

Decent little local supermarket, but being on the small side means limited selection of products.
Tyler Adams (22/06/2025, 09:16):
This Asda supermarket may be a tad smaller than the usual, but it's compact and bijou. You can always rely on the consistency of an Asda store, and this one is no exception.
Carol Watson (21/06/2025, 18:48):
The supermarket is decently stocked. The majority of the staff are friendly, but I have encountered a fair amount who are rather rude and unpleasant. The cafe is fantastic, with delightful homemade baked goods.
Keith Phillips (20/06/2025, 05:15):
Compact yet sufficient. The friendly staff adds to the charm of this establishment, albeit having a limited parking area with a convenient petrol station.
Johnny Hamilton (16/06/2025, 06:37):
I popped into the store to grab a couple of items and figured I'd be in and out quickly. However, when I headed to the cigarette counter, I ended up waiting for a whopping 24 minutes to be served. Why, you may ask? Well, the lady in front of me was purchasing goods for multiple individuals. The kicker? Out of the three registers available, only one was open for business. To make matters worse, there were employees present, with two of them manning the register intermittently. It seems that prioritizing scanning prices and barcodes took precedence over providing timely service to customers. Despite being second in line, there were about 10 people queued up behind me.
Rose Kim (15/06/2025, 09:59):
There seems to be a lack of staff at this supermarket. The limited number of clerks not paying attention to the queues and instead chatting with customers is quite frustrating. This has always been an issue at this store, based on my numerous visits even when it was a co-op.
Stephanie Foster (13/06/2025, 09:35):
Had all the products I was after. The staff were really friendly.
Dennis Rivera (11/06/2025, 04:10):
The entire experience was not very good, I must say. The parking spaces for the car were rather small, and since we drive a compact SUV, we encountered quite a bit of trouble trying to park. I even had to step out of the vehicle to assist my wife in maneuvering into the space. Additionally, the store itself was on the smaller side, making it challenging for us to locate the items we were looking for. Ultimately, we decided to head over to Tesco's in Middleburg instead.
Gloria Patterson (08/06/2025, 18:26):
The last time I visited that place, there were only self-checkout options available. I will not be returning.
Heather Jordan (07/06/2025, 05:30):
There is only one fella in charge of managing both the self-service and the cigarette counter. So if you happen to encounter any hiccups in either section, you'll have to hold your horses until they wrap up with the other area before lending you a hand. Not exactly ideal, especially during the morning rush when time is of the essence.
Tyler Kim (05/06/2025, 15:33):
Absolutely dreadful experience at this particular Asda... I visited on Friday the 14th at 3:30 pm and encountered a long queue at the self-checkouts. To my disbelief, a lady with a completely full shopping trolley was attempting to use the self-service machines. Despite there being two available tills, they couldn't even bother to open one up for her. The lack of assistance was appalling, and when I inquired about opening a till, I was met with a dismissive shrug. Terrible customer service indeed.
Sharon Collins (03/06/2025, 09:24):
This particular Asda in Scotland could be deemed as the least appealing of the bunch. The demeanor of the checkout staff might just deter you from making a return visit. Don't bank on receiving assistance at the self-checkouts either, as they're often engrossed in conversations with their friends at the tobacco desk.
Margaret Kim (03/06/2025, 06:35):
Lovely little shop, a wide range of products to select from.
Walter Lopez (01/06/2025, 14:37):
It was Christmas Eve and my 5-year-old daughter and I were leaving the store when John from the Tranent store, who was dressed as Santa during his break - not in full outfit, but clearly having made a great effort - approached us. He handed my daughter a £10 gift voucher with a thank you from the store for being their customers and wishing us a Merry Christmas. I have never witnessed such a gesture before, and I was truly impressed by the effort put in not only by John, but all the staff working on Christmas Eve. Everyone was dressed up and making a great effort. Well done, folks, and thanks once again!
Emma Cruz (01/06/2025, 10:23):
Security guards were awfully impolite. They confiscated 3 masks from my family for store entry because of the Covid-19 regulations. One of them held my hand and instructed me to return two masks, as only one was allowed per person. I hesitated, fearing contamination if I returned them, but despite my explanation, he insisted. As a result, we decided to take our business elsewhere that day.
Mark Lee (29/05/2025, 04:32):
The young chap at the pizza counter possesses exceptional customer service skills and is always incredibly pleasant. A true gem!
