Exploring Tesco Extra in Irvine: A Comprehensive Overview

Tesco Extra in Irvine is a massive supermarket that serves as a one-stop-shop for all your grocery needs. With its wheelchair-accessible entrance and car park, it aims to provide convenience and inclusivity for all shoppers.

Accessibility Features

This store boasts a wheelchair-accessible car park and seating, making it easier for individuals with mobility challenges to shop comfortably. However, feedback from customers suggests that some accessibility features, like the automated barriers, could be improved to enhance the shopping experience for everyone.

Store Offerings and Service Options

The supermarket includes a wide range of offerings, from fresh produce to clothing and household items. Regular customers appreciate the great produce selection; however, there have been complaints about inconsistent stock levels and certain products being frequently unavailable. The store provides various service options including in-store shopping, no-contact delivery, and in-store pick-up with their Click & Collect service, which has received positive reviews for efficiency.

Customer Experiences and Staff Interaction

Experiences at Tesco Extra can be quite mixed. Some customers have praised individual staff members for going above and beyond, while others have reported instances of unhelpful or apathetic staff. For instance, a customer mentioned receiving excellent assistance from a staff member in the clothing department, while another described feeling rushed and watched due to idle employees. Customer service varies, as noted by multiple reviews stating that interactions can feel hit or miss, depending on the employee. It's essential for management to address these inconsistencies to ensure a better shopping atmosphere.

Payments and Promotions

Tesco Extra offers flexible payment options, including debit cards, NFC mobile payments, and Clubcard discounts that make shopping more affordable. However, customers have pointed out that the prices can be significantly higher compared to larger Tesco locations, which might deter some from doing their weekly shops here.

Cafe and Dining Experience

The store features a cafe offering hot and cold food. While many appreciate the clean facilities and good service during quieter times, some have had negative experiences with food quality and service speed. Customers have suggested improvements in food preparation and overall dining experience.

Planning Your Visit

For a quick visit, it's worth noting that Tesco Extra in Irvine tends to be less crowded during early morning hours, providing a more relaxed shopping experience. Free parking is available, allowing you to shop without the stress of finding a space. Additionally, the store is known to be LGBTQ+ friendly, contributing to an inclusive environment.

Final Thoughts

In summary, Tesco Extra in Irvine offers a broad array of products and services that cater to various customer needs. Inconsistent products, I tell ya. I got this onion bhaji burger once and now it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack to get it again. The management at that store, total joke. Whoever is in charge of ordering the stock needs a proper lesson in it. One day there's bread, next day it's vanished. And don't get me started on the bakery goods, always running out. Freezer items are constantly low. And when they have something on special, you can bet they won't have enough. That store just winds me up, not a pleasant shopping experience at all.

I had to dash over to the supermarket to grab a few essentials. One of the Tesco delivery chaps noticed I was juggling my sleeping daughter and a basket, and kindly offered to assist me in navigating the aisles. He accompanied me as I gathered my items and then escorted me to the checkout. His gesture was greatly valued and made my shopping experience much smoother.

I must say, the selection of sandwiches is absolutely smashing and the flower display is simply delightful.
Gabriel Henderson (14/06/2025, 19:41):
I absolutely adore shopping at this Tesco! It's never too packed or overwhelming, has a lovely relaxed vibe, and stocks absolutely everything you could ever want. It's definitely my go-to store!
Vincent Peterson (10/06/2025, 22:47):
The customer service experience at this place is utterly dreadful 🤮. A staff member named Jo at the checkout was incredibly rude to my elderly, disabled parents, taking an eternity to assist them and then speaking to them in a completely disrespectful manner before redirecting them to another checkout. She left my disabled parents to transfer all of their groceries to the new checkout, then enlisted another customer service advisor to partake in Jo's disrespectful conduct. Despite my parents lodging a complaint with a manager, they have yet to receive any form of apology or resolution. Steer clear of this establishment and make sure to avoid interacting with the staff member named Jo! What an appalling way to treat valued customers.

I must say, the staff at this supermarket are absolutely dreadful. Utterly clueless and unhelpful, constantly chatting amongst themselves at the self-checkout while customers are left waiting to be served. And don't even get me started on the attitude you receive when you dare to point out their incompetence. It's beyond belief that some staff members prioritize serving their colleagues over actual customers, and the cheek they have to give you a mouthful when you call them out on it! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If I could, I would give it 0 stars - that's how disappointed I am with the service here.
Donna White (09/06/2025, 15:15):
I had an absolutely dreadful experience today, around 6:30 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021. I was not permitted to enter the store with my 14-year-old daughter because of a policy allowing only one person to shop. It was freezing at 0 degrees Celsius outside, and as I began my shopping (with my daughter waiting outside in the cold), I noticed that nearly everyone else was shopping in pairs. I returned to ask the security guard why others were allowed in together, and he informed me that the person was on a break when they entered and that people were coming in individually but then meeting up inside.

I left the store feeling absolutely furious and headed to Sainsbury's instead, where I spent just under £400 with my daughter and received exceptional customer service. It is crucial to maintain consistency when enforcing policies regarding single shoppers.
Theresa Murphy (09/06/2025, 11:42):
Fantastic shopping experience here. The staff is absolutely lovely, and they have such a great selection of items.
Paul Taylor (02/06/2025, 23:19):
During the lockdown, we would frequently do our major shopping at Tesco. It's a fantastic store, and if you have a Clubcard, you can earn points and vouchers as well.
Hannah Hayes (02/06/2025, 22:47):
I quite fancy this store for my weekly grocery haul. They have a splendid assortment of fruits and veggies, plus they carry a broader range of brands compared to other supermarkets. The prices are quite fair, and you can score some cracking deals when lucky enough to catch them on sale. Cheers!
Johnny Sanchez (02/06/2025, 10:28):
Kudos to Margaret at Customer Service in Irvine on Saturday, January 7th - she was really helpful and friendly 🙂
Grace Garcia (01/06/2025, 11:21):
Lovely spot for a quick cuppa and some delicious scones at a decent price 👌...
Shirley Davis (29/05/2025, 23:46):
Wonderful store, staff is amazing, and management is always happy to assist. The store is also very clean, well done!
Jessica Baker (29/05/2025, 07:22):
Absolutely dreadful customer service. They couldn't even manage to get the address correct. Now I have to wait a whopping 3 business days for a refund. I will definitely think twice before placing another online order with Tesco. 😡😡😡
Walter Roberts (29/05/2025, 03:26):
This supermarket has recently changed its hours and now closes at midnight, which seems like a smart business decision. They offer a wide variety of everyday items, making it convenient to get everything you need for the week. The store is clean, organized, and easy to navigate. The staff is friendly and approachable, with some even being quite jovial.

It's one of the two supermarkets in Irvine where you can easily find parking without having to drive around like a hungry shark.

In my humble opinion, I would recommend giving this place a try. Of course, you can take my advice or leave it - it's entirely up to you. It's that simple!
Lawrence Cruz (28/05/2025, 04:35):
Well, the shopping experience is alright but some of the staff can be a tad unfriendly, I must say.
Harold Ortiz (25/05/2025, 20:31):
I found myself at the store at 5am this morning, a bit out of my usual routine I must say. Everyone on staff was incredibly accommodating, even though they were busy fulfilling orders they still took the time to assist me. A big shoutout to the lady at the self-checkout area who scanned my items with such a lovely attitude so early in the morning. Your kindness did not go unnoticed. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
Anna Cooper (25/05/2025, 09:18):
I had such a delightful experience at the supermarket with a wonderful lass named Shonagh. She truly went the extra mile assisting me in the clothing section, and it was truly heartwarming to encounter such kindness. A wee gem, indeed!
