Doctor Simpson Medical Group in Bathgate: An Overview

The Doctor Simpson Medical Group, located in Bathgate, is known for its range of medical services and facilities. However, like many healthcare practices, it has received a mix of reviews from patients regarding its services and staff.

Accessibility Features

One of the notable aspects of the Doctor Simpson Medical Group is its commitment to accessibility. The facility boasts wheelchair-accessible entrances and a wheelchair-accessible car park, making it easier for patients with mobility challenges to visit. Additionally, the center is equipped with gender-neutral toilets, ensuring all patients feel comfortable during their visit. The wheelchair-accessible toilet further enhances the overall accessibility of the practice.

Appointments and Patient Experiences

Patients are often advised that appointments are recommended due to high demand for services. Some reviews highlight challenges in booking appointments, with reports of calls going unanswered or being met with busy signals. This can lead to frustrations, particularly for those seeking urgent care. One comment noted, "I tried to book an appointment for my child and I phoned them the whole last week but there is always busy." Such experiences underline the importance of planning ahead when considering a visit to Doctor Simpson Medical Group.

Patient Care and Professionalism

While some patients have praised the medical professionals at Doctor Simpson, others have expressed concerns about unprofessional behavior observed during visits. Comments included instances where communication about medication was deemed inappropriate or dismissive. One patient shared their frustration stating, “the reception lady just wouldn't believe that my prescription was deemed urgent.” However, there are also positive reflections on the service, with one individual stating, "This is honestly the best GP I've been to," highlighting that many staff members are helpful and attentive.

Amenities and Overall Experience

The amenities available at Doctor Simpson Medical Group include various medical services designed to cater to a wide range of health needs. Despite the challenges faced by staff in managing high volumes of patients, many individuals have acknowledged the effort placed into providing care. Another reviewer noted, "First class face-to-face contact from start to finish," emphasizing the effective service delivery despite external pressures. Unfortunately, the recurring theme in several reviews is the difficulty faced by patients in getting timely responses, whether through phone calls or in-person interactions. The statement “never any appointments available” resonates with many, indicating a need for enhanced communication and more efficient appointment scheduling.

Conclusion

In summary, while Doctor Simpson Medical Group offers vital medical services and strives to maintain a welcoming environment with accessible features, patient experiences show that there is room for improvement, particularly in communication and appointment availability. Understanding these factors can help potential patients plan their visits better and set realistic expectations regarding their healthcare journey.

I cannot find any fault with them, they have been professional, friendly, and helpful at all times. It can be a bit challenging to reach them when everyone else is also trying to, but that's just par for the course when calling any doctor's office.
Randy Butler (28/07/2025, 10:02):
I must say, it's quite frustrating when you try to reach them by phone only to find the line constantly engaged. And when you finally get through, no one bothers to answer! Quite a bummer, I must say.
Arthur Alexander (22/07/2025, 14:08):
I believe some of the reviews here are quite unfair, as this medical practice is doing the best it can with the limited resources it has. It's worth noting that the NHS as a whole is severely underfunded, and no NHS practice in the country has unlimited resources to answer calls instantly, see patients at short notice, or provide prescriptions without discretion. In my experience, this practice has been mostly positive; I can usually get a same-day appointment if I call early in the morning and persist until I get through. I'm typically seen within ten minutes of my appointment time, and the doctors and receptionists are respectful, friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.

Essentially, if you expect your call to be answered immediately or to be seen on the same day without prior notice, you may be disappointed. However, reasonable people will understand that they have access to a reliable service that is free at the point of use, and will appreciate that everyone at the practice is doing their best with the available resources.
George Wright (13/07/2025, 12:59):
I tried reaching out multiple times, but they never responded to my calls.
Ralph Bailey (12/07/2025, 21:24):
I have been attempting to contact them by telephone since 8 o'clock this morning, yet regrettably, I have not received a response.
Charles Kim (12/07/2025, 00:16):
I have ceased seeing all patients for any reason, absolutely pathetic.
Jeremy Lewis (02/07/2025, 17:53):
Dr. McNulty seems to believe that his status as a doctor grants him divine authority, which is concerning. It is important that he does not misuse his position to retaliate against those who hold differing opinions.
Richard James (01/07/2025, 14:33):
Highly skilled professionals, exceptional level of care.
Joshua Jenkins (30/06/2025, 22:09):
I ventured out to collect my crucial prescription for a distressing skin ailment, only to be informed by the chemist that the prescription had not been received from the medical office. I attempted to call the practice for a full half-hour with no response. When I went to the reception, I was met with a cold and disrespectful demeanor - the receptionist simply refused to acknowledge that my prescription was urgent and would be ready today, not on Thursday. Despite no one answering the phone, it persistently showed a busy signal when I tried calling... This resulted in an additional hour of waiting in agony. What a disgraceful situation at this practice. While everyone is understandably stressed about Covid, it doesn't excuse forgetting basic manners...
Charles Diaz (29/06/2025, 14:49):
The most dreadful surgery I've ever come across. The staff there is unprofessional and unhelpful. I attempted to schedule an appointment for my child, and I called them the entire last week, but the line was always busy. When I finally visited the surgery, a lady told me to call again. But how can I call when it's always engaged? It's a waste of time. To them, it seems better to wait at home and succumb than seek assistance.
Keith Graham (23/06/2025, 16:51):
I had a dreadful experience at this establishment!!! It seems impossible to secure an appointment. Upon entering, a courteous voice promptly inquires about the issue only to inform you that there is no available space to see the doctor. Instead, the doctor may call and diagnose you over the phone, which I find absolutely astonishing. A simple remedy of paracetamol and plenty of water seems to be the solution for 99.99% of all modern ailments. At times, it feels as if one is in a developing country... If this is the norm at other general practitioner practices in West Lothian, then the best course of action may be to seek assistance at the Accident and Emergency department of the hospital where one is sure to receive aid. What truly pains me is that for years, despite contributing to the NHS, the only treatment received is paracetamol. The lack of expertise from the GP leaves much to be desired (seems like their diagnosis hinges on the weather, attributing pain to it :) :) :)). Wishing everyone good health above all else!!!! Please do share your experiences with other GP practices in West Lothian, as it will certainly aid in selecting the right one. Thank you
Julie Foster (20/06/2025, 10:57):
I have attempted to reach them by phone over 100 times in the past few weeks, but they never seem to answer. Quite a humorous situation with this GP in the UK.
Ethan Cox (19/06/2025, 07:00):
I have been utilizing this facility recently and can confidently say that the service provided has been exceptional.
Charles Scott (19/06/2025, 04:42):
My appointment at Simpsons was the crack of dawn this morning. The reception staff were as polite as ever on the blower and in person, but the doc I encountered was a bit of a letdown. I mentioned how popping paracetamol for my arthritis was leaving me feeling queasy, only for him to inquire about what specific brand I was popping. Can you believe it? Such a daft question coming from a supposedly well-educated physician! Perhaps he suspected I was angling for time off work? No mate, I'm a spry 67-year-old pensioner.
Isabella Campbell (18/06/2025, 02:13):
The Simpson Medical Centre is absolutely top-notch when it comes to doctors! I've visited a few in my time, but Dr. McNutt and the team there are simply fantastic. I'd rate them a solid 5 out of 5, no question about it! Cheers to them!
Ronald Gomez (15/06/2025, 08:42):
I have been trying to call to request a prescription since just after 8am this morning, and it is now 1:07pm (a full 5 hours later). The phone line has been constantly busy, and I am beginning to wonder if they leave it off the hook deliberately. This isn't the first time this has happened!
Juan Nelson (15/06/2025, 00:53):
I cannot fault this practice as they have been extremely helpful with my recent bereavement and provided full support during the necessary period.
Allison Henderson (10/06/2025, 13:23):
When a nurse openly discussed my medication and shared her opinions in front of both staff and patients, it was truly appalling and unprofessional. Her behavior was completely out of line and should not be tolerated. Patients deserve to be treated with respect and privacy, this kind of conduct is unacceptable and should be addressed accordingly.
